Funding will be granted according to the relevance of the chosen topic and to the balance of nationalities and genders of participants.

Criteria for funding by the EU Commission:
from the Guide for Proposers for HIGH-LEVEL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCES, Edition October 2000

Young researchers are researchers, who additionally satisfy the Age Criterion and are able to benefit from the advanced training offered by a Conference project. They normally participate as attending scientists, but can also act as organisers or invited keynote speakers. Young researchers do not have an automatic right to participate in, nor to be supported by, a particular Conference project; the selection of candidates is the responsibility of the organisers.

Age criterion: Young researchers are researchers up to an age limit of 35 years at the time of a particular conference event. (i.e. up to their 36th birthday. Allowance will be made for compulsory military or civil service (actual time spent in military or civil service) and childcare (maximum 2 years per child for the actual time spent off work). As an exception to this standard rule, young researchers acting as organisers or invited keynote speakers may use as reference date, the relevant deadline for proposal reception at the Commission.

EU funding for researchers working outside the EU

There is special EU funding available for keynote speaches from scientists who are EU citizens, but currently working outside an EU or accession country. Funding will be granted according to the originality of the contribution and a balance of nationalities for travel, accommodation and conference fee. For detailed information, please fax us the registration form for EU-funding or write a short email to easy@wu-wien.ac.at.
